We have developed a new 400 g/m2 unidirectional (UD) flax fabric, specifically engineered for structural applications. This fabric addresses a clear gap in the market: a standardized, cost-efficient natural fibre reinforcement suitable for large-scale and load-bearing structures — from marine and mobility to architecture and infrastructure.

The development draws on more than a decade of practical composite experience: in maritime lightweight construction with GREENBOATS, in vehicle applications with GREENLANDER, and inspired by recent bridge construction projects by Witteveen+Bos (NL) within the Smart Circular Bridge EU research programme. These projects have demonstrated the structural potential of flax, but they also revealed limitations in the textile formats currently available. Conventional low-areal-weight UD fabrics often require many layers, driving up labour and processing costs.

Our new 400 g/m2 UD fabric is designed to address these challenges: higher areal weight means fewer layers are required, reducing lay-up time. By using a higher TEX roving, roving costs per square metre are reduced. Processing efficiency improves, lowering overall laminate cost. The fabric is optimised for infusion with a clean fibre architecture and minimal binder, making it suitable for load-bearing structures in civil engineering, mobility, and architecture.

Pre-Order Price

The current price reflects pre-order conditions during first batch production. Once production is complete, pricing will be adjusted to the regular list price, depending on market conditions.

Orders for multiple rolls are typically packed in a cardboard carton on a standard wooden pallet and covered with stretch wrap.

Storage

Our Reinforcement fabrics should be stored in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Flax fibre can absorb moisture from the atmosphere so drying may be required before use, especially if exposed to excessive humidity.

Safety

Flax fibre is a naturally occurring, non-hazardous material, but typical precautions should be taken when handling the material including using appropriate PPE and adequate ventilation.
